How to Build a Water Powered Rocket
How to Build a Water Powered Rocket Step 1: Building. First, we cut one of the 2L bottles at the bottom of the flat middle section (where the wrapper is). Step 2: Arduino Protection. To protect the Arduino we used bubble wrap and a small piece of sponge. In the 2L bottle Step 3: Parachute. To. Construct and launch a simple bottle rocket made from a two-liter soda kristinfrey.com: Rebecca Whitaker: Msfc, Denise Miller: Msfc.
First, we cut one of the 2L bottles at the bottom of the flat middle section where the wrapper is. We cut in the same place for the 1L bottle and left the 2L biild alone. Next we got three styrofoam treys and cut one into the shape of the fin that we wanted. After that we traced the fin and made two more. After that we hot glued the fins to the flat part of the bottle Fill bottle with cold water so hot glue doesn't melt the bottle.
To protect the Arduino we used bubble wrap and a small piece of sponge. In the 2L bottle that we cut in half we covered the inside of the bottle where the flat part was in super glue and covered it with bubble wrap. In the top nozzle of the 2L bottle that we cut we also put a sponge and just squeezed it in the nozzle so it wouldn't move. On the the flat bottom of the bottle with the fins we also put glue and bubble wrap. In the 1L bottle we cut we made a parachute out of a trash bag we cut into a circle and poked holes throughout the outside of the powerev.
Then we put the fishing line through the bag and tied it into a what is phone banking for campaign. For the first parachute bottom parachute we got a trash bag and cut it into a circle. After this we poked holes around the outside of the parachute and stuck yarn though the holes and zip tied the hoa so it would stay.
Then for the buiild of yarn we wrapped duct tape around it and and made a ball of duct tape we could put in the nozzle part of the protection section of the rocket. For the small parachute we did the same thing except made the circle smaller and used fishing line instead of thread. We did not zip tie the small parachute. We tied the ends into a knot and attached it to the big one using tap.
We placed the Arduino builc the protection part of the rocket and and taped the protected section to the bottle with fins. After this we folded the parachute and gently placed the top nozzle on how to create a own site of the folded parachute.
Very cool! I've made a few of these over the years, and it's always such a fun project. Did too do this for a school project?
Also, you can add the arduino code directly in the editor using the html button it's on the far left side of the tool bar. That buile better than a screenshot. By Vesper Tech Follow. About: We will design, build, program, and launch water powered rocket with a sensitive payload to max height and return it safely to Earth. More About Vesper Tech ». For our rocket we used 3 Sprite Bottles For our three bottles it doesn't matter what you use but wster used 2 2L bottles and 1 1L bottle.
To further protect the Arduino we warer a parachute. We made two parachutes then stacked them. After this fill up the bottom bottle with water and your poweerd to launch.

Step 1: Cut the First Bottle
Aug 07, · Secure your launcher to the ground, and attach your air pump to the hose system. Fill the rocket 1/3 full of water, and put the rocket onto your launch pad. You should raise a part of the hose above the water line in the rocket to stop water flowing back into the pump. All you have to do now is build up the pressure with your air pump. Jun 13, · In this video i build a water pressure rocket using a 2 liter soda bottle. The water rocket flies very high and is complete with a parachute and the video co.
Welcome to this instructable! Whether for a school project or just for fun, building and launching your own water rocket is a challenging but awesome experience. Bill of materials [PDF]. If this is to easy for you, you can check out our tutorial about building a two meter large water rocket as well:.
A water rocket is basically just a pressure vessel, filled with air and water. When you launch the rocket, the water is forced out of the vessel by the air pressure, and it accelerates the rocket in the opposite direction. Attach a car tire valve at one end of the hose. You may have to file off a part of the valve, which will then allow you to push it into the hose.
You can then secure it with a clamp. Attach the garden hose coupling at the other end of the hose. You can use whatever water proof materials you want for the stand, but if you want to keep it simple, just use four wooden planks like this. The stand will need to have a 16mm hole for the garden hose, and a 35mm hole for the coupling. Now you can push the hose through the small hole, and glue the coupling into the hole using a hot glue gun.
Just drill a hole into a bottle cap, and increase the diameter to 14mm. Let the nozzle cure for at least 48 hours. But what about the rocket itself? You will need a stable and thick-walled plastic bottle, to make up the body of the rocket. You just have to add some fins, made of thin, stiff and lightweight wooden or plastic materials. Feel free to try different fin shapes, but if you want you can download our fin templates from our website as well:.
Download fin templates [PDF]. If you want, you can build a parachute mechanism for your rocket as well. Note: For your rocket, you should use a smaller parachute than shown in this tutorial.
Just use a half tennis ball as the nosecone, and glue it in place using a hot glue gun. The only missing part is the release mechanism.
Just attach two nylon strings to the coupling with a cable tie and divert them horizontally with a rod. Now your rocket is ready to launch. Choose a launch site, which is far away from houses, streets, trees and power lines. Secure your launcher to the ground, and attach your air pump to the hose system. You should raise a part of the hose above the water line in the rocket to stop water flowing back into the pump.
All you have to do now is build up the pressure with your air pump. Please be carefull, and always wear safety goggles. You can use more pressure later, but always be aware that the bottle can explode. As soon as you have enough pressure, just pull the string and the rocket will launch.
We wish you much success in building your own water rocket. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments section below. Reply 5 years ago on Introduction. Reply 5 years ago. Back in the '50's, when toy manufacturing guidelines were We soon discovered, as kids are wont to do, that by over-pumping no safety valves back then they would fly higher and faster.
She really had a heart attack though when we decided to play "war" and shoot the things at each other, it had all the impact energy needed to bring down a rhino if it connected which, luckily it never did.
The last we saw of them was when mom took 'em away made 'em disappear- forever. Haha, sounds like a great childhood. More by the author:. About: We're a small group of students and we have been building water rockets since More About RaketfuedRockets ».
