Further to Stefan's reply For your autocorrects to work properly with multiple languages in one document, it has been my experience, that the entire paragraph must be designated for the language.
I leave the proof setting to Automatically Detect Language marked, so that might be why in my case, the entire paragraph must be set to the language I am using. As Stefan has said, "language reflects the language at the insertion point, so the autocorrect might work at an individual word level if I removed the auto detect setting, but it doesn't suit my purpose to do so.
